Sareem Poems x Newselph ’88 To Now’
The freshly minted duo, Sareem Poems and Newselph, have quickly developed a knack of staying grounded while consistently taking it to the next level. With the first visual from their 88 To Now album, the emcee and producer combo objectively look at life as equal parts peaches and cream as well as gravel and stones.
Over a laid-back slice of Jazz with sprinkles of sax and slaps, Sareem glides through air traffic and dropping the types of gems that can only come from life experience. You’ll have no choice but to stop, chill and realize that “it is what it is”. This song isn’t just music you will play. This jam is the soundtrack to your struggle and subsequent success.

Bio: (Sareem Poems)
The revolution will not be televised, cliché for some, but apt for emcee Sareem Poems. The
revolution is love and the medium is poetry and beats. After spending a decade and a half as a
prolific solo artist (known as Sharlok Poems) and with West Coast underground group LA Symphony,
Poems now teams up with indie label Illect Recordings, home of industry vets like Scribbling
Idiots, Jurny Big (L.P.G./Tunnel Rats) and Sivion (Deepspace5).
Sareem Poems music and message resonates with humanity through his ability to express all of life’s
beauty and ugliness. As a result he toured the U.S., Europe, and Asia, sharing stages with legends
as diverse as Public Enemy, De La Soul, P.O.D., Ice Cube, and Good Charlotte. That message helped
Poems and L.A. Symphony be voted the L.A. Times hip-hop group of the year and landed him on tours
sponsored by the NBA, as well as appearances in multiple video games.
In recent years Poems has created original poem pieces for Detroit Presbyterian Church projects,
Abound In Hope and Hopeful Youth. Abound in Hope: a collaboration between Detroit residents and the
Presbyterian Church to help breathe life into the idea of community through art and urban gardens.
Hopeful Youth: a film and creative writing program developed by Richard Jewell and Sareem Poems
working with the youth to explore their minds through story-telling and by writing and filming
Sareem Poems is currently the Community Engagement Director, Teaching Artist, and Event Planner for
All of the Above Hip Hop Academy located in Lansing and Grand Rapids, MI.
