After a serious hiatus from music to work on media, MLNY has finally returned with the first single of many more to come. ‘Midas Touch’ is a self-produced record that has a minimalist, yet catchy and bass heavy instrumental that allows MLNY’s vocal presence and lyrical abilities to take the forefront. MLNY bars out, with a stretched vowel finesse, that keeps the listener intrigued with his clever wit yet coming back to replay for it’s ability to get stuck in your head. After he smashes the beat’s head in with sharp lyrics and smooth cadence for upwards of two minutes, he ends the song with a chorus before the beat cuts.
Midas Touch was produced by MLNY (under his producer moniker Maloney) and recorded at Breaking Wreckords Studios. Fellow Breaking Wreckords co-founder Innesence was not only the studio engineer who recorded the vocals, but also the audio scientist to mix and master this record to it’s perfection. The music video was directed and edited by Specs One of the 80’sFavoriteBabies (who was also responsible for directing MLNY’s ‘Water’ music video) with the help of fellow 80’sFavoriteBabies family Dustin Wareham. The artwork was done by Breaking Wreckords’ Filthy Tarantino for his company O’Neil GFX, and the photo used was captured by an under-appreciated but extremely talented photographer Jake Bowen, who happens to be MLNY’s cousin.
The visuals for the song are quite self explanatory, but to be completely literal, MLNY is turning things into gold.
