Based out of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, Fraction is a veteran emcee/producer with over 25 years of experience in the field of music. Frac began releasing music throughout the 1990’s as part of the duo Minds In Chaos (with rhyme partner Sinsta). In 1998, Frac was featured on prolific Kitchener producer Pro-Logic’s Beatdown Invasion compilation. In 2000, he released his first solo effort titled Solidification (packaged as a dual EP with fellow Kitchener duo Low Budget) to critical acclaim. In 2003, Fraction reconnected with Pro-Logic to form Frac & Pro, releasing Relevance in 2003 and Necessary in 2007. In 2008, he released the hit single My Way featuring Saukrates. In 2012, Frac combined with prominent MPC Toronto producer Fresh Kils to create his sophomore solo effort, Extra Science. Extra Science would end up being Frac’s most successful work to date, peaking at #3 on the US CMJ Chart and #1 on the Canadian Earshot Chart. Fraction is currently finishing up his next solo release entitled Thoughtwork (produced by veteran New York emcee/producer Finsta of Finsta Bundy), a self-produced yet untitled solo LP, an instrumental LP, and a compilation LP.
Apart from his proficiency with a microphone, Fraction is also a seasoned producer. As an original member of the reputed Toronto Beat Lounge series, Frac is known for his soul infused chord arrangements, unique production methods, and hard drums. Fraction is currently producing an array of projects, including solo efforts from Michigan’s Ill Tone (of Blacktivity/The Lyricists), and Kitchener emcees Joga and Cable. Frac is also an accomplished deejay with hundreds of cut credits to his name.
Fraction has worked with an array of renound hip hop artists including Prince Po (of Organized Konfusion), Planet Asia, Saukrates, Blaq Poet, D.O., Finsta, and The Beatminerz. Frac has performed alongside artists including Nas, Raekwon, Redman, Obie Trice, Royce Da 5’9, Elephant Man, Rahzel (of The Roots), Akon, Kardinal Offishall, and Jim Jones.
In 2008, Fraction was crowned the winner of 91.5 The Beat’s Rhythm of the Future contest. In 2010, he appeared on the hit CBC show Dragon’s Den pitching a science curriculum based educational LP titled ScienceEvolution (with business partner Edward Piva). In 2013, Fraction was nominated for a Waterloo Region Arts Award for his long time contributions to the local music community. Fraction’s music has appeared in an array of popular television shows including MTV’s The Real World and the UK’s Best Ink.
Aside from music, Fraction is also well known for his artistic design talents, having contributed artwork for over 50 artists’ projects since the mid 2000’s. Fraction currently owns and operates a studio in his hometown where he provides recording, engineering, production, mixing, design, and consulting services to both domestic and international clientele.
